Mytvathyr

The Vampire's Pet: Romantasy at its darkest (Blood and Kisses Chronicles : A Dark, Gothic Romance Series)

Mytvathyr, the elven city to the north, is the destination Esmeralda was supposed to reach on behalf of her werewolf-witch pack. Although the narrative never depicts the city directly, its absence from the central action is itself consequential: Esmeralda is captured before arriving, and her expected presence there causes her family to lose valuable time while searching for her.

Definition and Narrative Setting

Mytvathyr is an elven city located north of Ichoryllia. Esmeralda explains that her pack had sent her there to discuss an agreement with the magic guild. The assignment places her beyond the immediate protection of her secluded werewolf-witch community and requires her to travel through the forest near Ichoryllia, where she is caught by vampires before completing the journey.

The city therefore functions less as a visited setting than as a destination shaped by interrupted movement. Esmeralda’s route toward a diplomatic or magical negotiation is diverted into the human pet system, changing her from a pack representative into a captive and then into Aleksander Dumoulin’s purchased human pet. Mytvathyr marks the life she was meant to continue, while the forest near Ichoryllia becomes the threshold at which that life is violently displaced.

Esmeralda’s Intended Mission

Esmeralda’s connection to Mytvathyr reveals that her journey was purposeful rather than aimless. Her pack had entrusted her with discussions involving the magic guild, suggesting that she carried responsibilities beyond the boundaries of her family. This detail also clarifies why she was traveling away from the pack despite belonging to a reclusive group of werewolf witches and being born without either a wolf form or magic.

Her interrupted mission deepens the contrast between her original social identity and the status imposed on her in Ichoryllia. She had been sent as a participant in an agreement, yet vampires classify her as prey and a commodity. The distance between those roles is embodied in the journey itself: the road to Mytvathyr promises negotiation, whereas capture redirects her toward a cage, a black gemstone collar, and Aleksander’s household.

The Delay in the Search

After Aleksander Dumoulin learns that Esmeralda comes from a werewolf-witch pack, he anticipates that her people will look for her. He reasons that the Alpha would send several members of the pack, but also hopes they will search in the wrong place because Esmeralda was supposed to go to Mytvathyr. Since the pack would probably take several days to realize that she was missing from the elven city, the destination becomes an accidental shield for her captors.

This delay helps explain why Aleksander has time to establish control over Esmeralda before the pack reaches him. He gives her the collar, insists that she obey him, and treats her blood as a future resource, while the people who might protect her remain unaware that she never arrived at the city. Mytvathyr thus operates as a narrative blind spot: the place where Esmeralda should be becomes the place her family assumes she may still be.

Consequences for the Wider Conflict

Mytvathyr links several overlapping boundaries in the story. It belongs to the elves and is associated with a magic guild, while Esmeralda belongs to a werewolf-witch pack and is seized by vampires in the region around Ichoryllia. Her route crosses political, magical, and species divisions before the journey can be completed. The city’s indirect presence helps establish a world in which travel is also movement between competing communities and legal orders.

The consequences of the failed arrival extend beyond a delayed search. Because Esmeralda remains in Ichoryllia, Aleksander finds her after she escapes his mansion and rescues her from another vampire near the new human breeding farm. He later follows her into the forest, where her pack confronts him and her parents learn that he claims to be her fated mate. The journey that should have ended in a meeting with a magic guild instead leads to a confrontation among vampires, werewolves, family authority, and the Moon Goddess’s supposed choice.

Narrative Significance

Mytvathyr represents an unrealized destination and the life Esmeralda was expected to resume. Its significance lies in the chain of consequences produced by her failure to arrive: the pack’s search is postponed, Aleksander’s possession of her becomes possible, and the interrupted journey eventually contributes to the revelation of the fated-mate bond between Aleksander Dumoulin and Esmeralda.

The city also sharpens the story’s recurring opposition between imposed categories and personal choice. Esmeralda is sent toward an agreement as a member of her pack, confined as a human pet under the restored vampire laws, and later defended by Aleksander as his mate. Mytvathyr belongs to the first of these identities, but because she never reaches it, the narrative turns a planned diplomatic journey into the route by which her allegiance, captivity, and future are contested.
